Merry Christmas and I’m Out!
- December 24, 2009 -

I just wanted to take this time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I’m really excited about what 2010 has to offer and I hope you guys are looking forward to it as well.
I also wanted to get the formal word out that Nate Mathai Photography will be closing it’s proverbial doors until January 4th (well…techincally the 2nd) for the holidays. My upcoming schedule heading into the new year will be:
Dec. 24-25: Family Celebrations
Dec. 26-29: Winter Regional Conference in Hillsdale, Michigan
Dec. 31-Jan. 1: New Year’s Festivities
Jan. 2: Wedding in Indiana
So I technically start shooting again on January 2nd, but will be officially back in office starting the 4th to respond to e-mails and such.
Happy holidays everyone, and stay safe!

Shaina + Aby : modern portraits {elmhurst, il}
- December 16, 2009 -
You probably remember Shaina and Aby from earlier in the year with their proposal/mini-session from earlier in the year. I was able to get back together with them for part two of their portraits a short while back. Shaina is in nursing school at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL, so we worked our way around that campus- I was surprised at how much is around that area!
I love simple body language.

These two are so chill…straight baller. I think this one’s my favorite:

Such a peaceful moment…

There’s something about beautiful architecture/buildings that just grabs me every time.

We then made our way over to a nearby park…who doesn’t like playing in a park?

Sadly, I won’t be shooting the wedding since I’ll be a groomsman, but I’m still looking forward to next July!

Rejani + Lejoe : modern events {teaser}
- December 14, 2009 -
Rejani and Lejoe were a great couple to end the 2009 season with. They had an engagement ceremony at the beautiful St. Mary of Vernon Catholic Church in Indian Creek, Illinois followed by a small reception at his house in Gurnee, Illinois. Here’s a quick tease from the 5-minute photoshoot I was able to steal them away for during the reception:

Susie + Shawn : modern portraits {ann arbor, mi}
- December 9, 2009 -
The drive to Michigan was worth it. :) After a late night wedding the night before, my wife joined the road trip to shoot Susie and Shawn’s session, and they totally rocked it out. It feels kind of weird saying this since these two are only a little bit older than me, but they are DEFINITELY a cute couple. It didn’t take long for them to get comfortable in front of the camera and start putting out some awesome shots!
We started out near at the beautiful Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the weather was absolutely perfect for us!

I mean, seriously!? How cute is this?

Susie, you made my job really easy. (Shawn…you’re a stud, too)

We then headed out to a local “unnamed” university nearby. :) I must say, I LOVE shooting in campus towns…such great architecture, tons of people…it’s a beautiful place to be.

Their wedding was just a couple weeks later, so I’ll be getting those images up here in a short while too! And that was some MASSIVE fun times, so get ready. :)

Jaimy + Sijin : modern portraits {chicago, il}
- December 4, 2009 -
These guys are starting to feel like you’ve all seen enough of them (proposal, e-session 1, engagement party), but you’re not, right?! I mean, you better not be, because we still got their wedding next spring! :)
We chose to go a bit more urban and took to downtown Chicago, hitting up a few of the regular spots (Millenium Park, Navy Pier, Pritzker Pavilion) as well as a few back alleys…we ran the gamut!

After a quick outfit change we were starting to lose some light and wanted to get a couple shots by the water, when I saw this little shed- I fell in love! I could have shot at this one spot all day…

Good thing we didn’t, though, or else I wouldn’t have been able to grab this fave…

Jaimy and Sijin, you guys did it again…you make my job very easy. I’m so looking forward to April 2010!

Alyssa’s Baptism : modern portraits {Lombard, IL}
- December 3, 2009 -
It’s crazy to see life progress. Alan and Jane were the first couple I ever shot an e-session for a few years back, and now they were welcoming their first child into the world. It was an honor for me to be able to document the baptism of baby Alyssa for them.
The ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Thomas Mar Thomas Church in Lombard, IL

They had a small reception afterwards as well.
